CATT is an integrative therapy focused on trauma that combines cognitive behavioural theory with creative arts methods and human rights principles. This approach creates a holistic, child-centered intervention designed to help children and adolescents overcome PTSD and complex trauma.
Many trauma-focused therapies were initially developed for adults and then modified for younger populations. However, CATT recognizes that children’s and adolescents’ mental and emotional capacities to process traumatic memories differ from those of adults, which is what sets it apart.
CATT trauma therapy aligns with the UK NICE guidelines (2018) and World Health Organisation recommendations (2013) for treating children and adolescents with PTSD and complex trauma. This method assists young people in processing their traumatic memories in a safe, child-friendly manner.
